Thousands of protesters attended a demonstration to oppose the Green Pass in Rome on Saturday.

The certificate is mandatory in order to work and attend all public places and events, including public transport between cities.

The protesters gathered in Rome's Circus Maximus, after Italian authorities banned demonstrations against the Green Pass in historic or tourist sites.

Italy has stepped up its COVID vaccination campaign, bringing forward the start date for administering the third dose of the vaccine to those over 40 from December 1 to November 22.

SOUNDBITES:

SOT, Protester (Italian): "If you want to kick me out of here, you have to kill me."

SOT, Protester (Italian): "Between vaccinated and unvaccinated people. Are we all equal? We are equal human beings. We are equal."

SOT, Protester (Italian): "Everyone makes their choice. I am not against the vaccine, I am here for freedom of choice.
Journalist (Italian): "You are upset about the obligation, which doesn't exist, there is no real obligation."
Protester (Italian): "It's a masked obligation, there is the base of an obligation."
