पदार्थांचे आकुंचन व प्रसरण होणे हे उष्णतेमुळे घडून येते. एखाद्या पदार्थाला उष्णता दिली तर ती प्रसरण पावते व उष्णता काढून घेतली तर आकुंचन पावते. म्हणजेच उष्णतेचे प्रसरण व आकुंचन हे उष्णतेचे परिणाम आहेत. या प्रयोगात उष्णतेच्या साह्याने पदार्थांचे आकुंचन व प्रसरण कसे होते हे समजावून सांगण्याचा प्रयत्न केला आहे.
The contraction and expansion of substances is caused by heat. If heat is applied to a substance, it expands and if heat is removed, it contracts. That is, expansion and contraction of heat are effects of heat. In this experiment an attempt has been made to explain the contraction and expansion of matter with the help of heat.
