ショスタコーヴィチは、興味ある「引用」をしばしばおこなっている。最後の作「ヴィオラ・ソナタop.147」(1975) の第2楽章では自作のオペラ「賭博者」、最終第3楽章ではベートーヴェン：ピアノ・ソナタop.27-2「月光」からの引用。僕は、音楽作品に限らず「引用」にかねて関心がある。「引用の引用」を試みてみよう。重なるほどに原型から離れていく音のプロセスを見つめた。それは、あの「連想ゲーム」のようだった。（池辺晋一郎）

Shostakovich often used quotations. In his last work, the Viola Sonata op.147 (1975), he quoted a fragment from his own opera The Gamblers in the second movement, and in the third movement he quoted from Beethoven's 'Moonlight' Piano Sonata op.27, no.2. For my part, I have been interested in quoting not only music, but also other things. I tried 'quoting quotations'. By repeating sound quotations, the piece moves away from its prototype and takes on the aspect of a 'association game' on television. (Shin-ichiro Ikebe)
